K-8 Support
Kindergarten through 8th grade students receive support as they prepare for the Freshman Academy through a variety of methods, including but not limited to:
Johan Khalilian
Reinforcing Shelton High School's theme of Responsibility, Respect, and Resilience, Graduation Matters Shelton sponsored motivational speaker, Johan Khalilian. While in his professional life Johan has been on the Tyra Banks Show, Jane the Virgin, has written books, and tours as a speaker, today he was simply someone else who grew up beyond his hometown to become who he wanted to be, despite the odds.
Johan met with the Class of 2022 and 2023 in small group settings and challenged students to think outside their current situations and see their potentials. He challenged students to make their school, community, and world a better place.
FieldSTEM is integrated, career connected, locally relevant, field-based learning designed to advance science literacy and inspire balanced decision making for sustainable communities. It is a process that takes students outdoors to integrate language and math skills with an understanding of complex social (cultural, economic, civic) and natural systems to: answer authentic questions through scientific inquiry, design real solutions through engineering, and resolve issues through collaborative decision making.

Bordeaux Elementary School and Shelton High School have embarked together on an exciting and unique program called STEAM Fridays (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). This is a unique collaboration between Bordeaux Elementary and the Shelton High School CTE Department (Career Technical Education) in which fourth-grade students get an opportunity to choose from a menu of CTE electives including construction, welding, automotive, engineering/robotics, natural resources, photography, art, stagecraft, culinary arts, and student store.
The Shelton High School students and CTE instructors provide our fourth-graders hands-on experiences in learning more about the many offerings provided by the Shelton High School CTE programs to help them think which educational path they would like to take in the future.
We are excited to expand STEAM Fridays to all three elementary schools starting in the 20-21 school year!
