The Shelton School District is committed to high-quality education for all.  We are dedicated to providing a learning environment that inspires and supports each and every student.  We know meaningful involvement of students, parents and community members is a very important part of attaining that level of excellence.  Community input on the values, beliefs and services will be gathered through a district-wide survey and some constituency focus groups during October and November of 2021.

The Strategic Plan Steering Committee (SPSC) is being convened now because the district’s current vision and goal (i.e., 100% graduation for high school students) is in its final year.  Through ongoing conversations with stakeholders this past summer and fall, it is apparent that the district needs some concrete initiatives that drive the collective efforts of its staff.  Historically, the district has published strategic plans, but they lacked implementation and maintenance plans to see initiatives through in order to reach established goals. The process the district is taking to develop a new strategic plan is based on the communities’ shared values and beliefs, student performance measures, current operation and management constraints, and research and / or evidence-based practices.  The goal is to draw coherence in what we prioritize as a district and broader community.  The Strategic Plan needs to detail how we use resources, on what we do, how we work together, and how we perform continuous improvement on a small set of student performance goals.

The Strategic Plan Steering Committee (SPSC) will present its findings, recommendations, and opinions to the Superintendent throughout the period of time the Steering Committee convenes.  A final drafted plan will include a list of district-wide initiatives and activities to support no more than 5 student performance goals and will be presented to the School Board.
