RECONFIGURATION

Reconfiguration

Reconfiguration is underway!

Students and Staff are on the move - Literally! With the passage of the Bond in February 2017, the reconfiguration planning of our schools is currently underway. Coming in the Fall of 2019 the Shelton School District will have an all-new look!

Here is what our District will look like in the Fall of 2019.

  • Bordeaux, Evergreen and Mt. View will become K-4 Schools.
  • Mt View and Evergreen will have Preschool Programs.
  • Olympic Middle School will educate grades 5-6.
  • Oakland Bay Jr High will become a 7-8 building.
  • Shelton High School will be a full experience High School for grades 9-12.
  • CHOICE High School will be an 8-12 educational facility.

In addition, we are taking a close look at how we educate our students. We are undergoing a complete instructional program review. The objective of this review is to align curriculum across grades and create a cohesive educational pathway as students move through our buildings. We are also establishing grade level standards. Establishment of grade level expectations assures students are prepared for the next level of learning, and that all students are provided the same rigorous and relevant learning opportunities throughout the District.

With the movement of nearly one-half of our students and staff, there are many things to consider. It is necessary to consider the placement of every book and desk. This work can not start too early, therefore may hours of work are already going into the reconfiguration and program review. We are coming together to look at the necessary tasks with a critical eye, to assure a smooth transition for our students, families, and staff. Committees are currently planning, reviewing, evaluating and considering every aspect of student needs, educational priorities, and what the physical transition of our district will look like.

We invite the community to follow this process as it unfolds. On our website, www.sheltonschools.org, you will find updates and minutes from all the committee work that is being done.

We encourage any community member who has questions about the reconfiguration and instructional program review to contact us at goodnews@sheltonschools.org. You can also attend our Community Forums on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6-7 pm.
