Due to constraints from the pandemic some changes have been made in terms of the Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020. Had we moved forward with our plan at Saint Martins, family members would not be allowed, per the Governor’s Phase plan (only 5 people are allowed inside, to include the graduate, photographer, name reader and staff presenting diploma). We felt it more inclusive for family to devise the plan outlined below. Also, by holding the ceremony outdoors on the SHS campus, staff are able to assist with the ceremony and be present. This would not have been possible, due to the limit of 5 people, at Saint Martins. Please watch for additional details as the planning will continue and information will be shared. Here is a summary:

  • June 23rd, starting at 10AM
  • SHS campus with a drive-thru type of ceremony
  • One car per family, per graduate; this allows the immediate family to see the graduate walk across the stage and receive their diploma
  • Graduate must be in passenger seat, in graduation cap and gown
  • Cars will be staged in the SHS parking lot and OBJH, as needed
  • At designated time, cars get into line, approaching the stage, once up front the graduate will exit car
  • Graduates will be staged 5 at a time, practicing social distancing of 6 feet apart
  • Graduate will pick up diploma and a bag containing a program and graduation tickets, have their name read, walk onto stage, stop for a photo, move their tassel, exit the stage, and return to the family car
  • Vehicles will then exit campus

This will continue until all participating graduates have completed their turn. We plan to have this live-streamed as well as a video. SHS staff will be on site to assist during the ceremony.

Below is the information released by the Governor in terms of the guidelines for Social Distancing:
