Shelton School District is proud to announce that we are offering a full-time online virtual academy for the 20-21 school year. Families may choose this option if they prefer to have their children learn 100% online. Our staff will teach using the robust and interactive curriculum supplied by K-12, a company dedicated to online learning. Students in kindergarten through grade 8 will be offered core classes of math, English Language Arts, social studies, and science. Students in grades 9 through 12 will have access to a variety of classes that will satisfy graduation requirements. In this model, parents and guardians are the education partners for their child(ren). After receiving instruction online, the student will need to complete activities at home that may require support from their education partner. This is a comprehensive program that is designed to have students engaged for a full day of instruction.

Planning for the 2020-2021 school year is currently being addressed through a set of 7 sub-committees that include staff, students, families, and community members. The sub-committees will be turning in their recommendations for review on July 15th to Dr. Apostle, the district superintendent. These recommendations will be presented to the school board on July 28th for formal approval. Once approved the recommendations will be released to our community on July 29th. The district plan for the 2020-2021 school year will also be presented at the Open Community Forum on July 30th at 6 PM.

The Shelton School District is seeking your input for the 20-21 school year. We listened to your preferences from our last survey and have taken that information back to our Sub-Committee for Instruction. At this point, we need to know what you feel is best for your family in the last stages of planning.

Wow! Congrats Class of 2020, you did it! About 300 students graduated this year from Shelton High School! Among the graduates, 11 students received their Associate of Arts degree, and 15 students earned their Seal of Biliteracy. We are so proud of all of our students and wish them the best as they move on to their next adventures.

It's hard to believe that today is the last day of the 19-20 school year! Congratulations to the graduating class of 2020, and to all students and families for persevering through the challenges the last few months have brought among us. We are so proud of you! Stay safe and enjoy your summer!

Due to constraints from the pandemic some changes have been made in terms of the Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020. Had we moved forward with our plan at Saint Martins family members would not be allowed, per the Governor’s Phase plan (only 5 people are allowed inside, to include the graduate, photographer, name reader and staff presenting diploma).

Lynn Eaton is a lifetime resident of Mason County and a Shelton High School alumni. She currently works as the Communications and Government Relations Manager for Mason PUD 3 and has a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership.

Dear Staff and Community Leaders: I hope this letter finds you safe and in good health. I would like to invite you as staff and community leaders to participate on a sub-committee that will begin the important process to prepare for the re-opening of our schools, whenever that may be.

Since the fall of 2014, the Shelton School District has been developing an outdoor education program for grades K-9 with the support of the Pacific Education Institute. As a science teacher for the district, Wendy Boles has had the opportunity to be involved with the development of the programs at several grade levels.

The Shelton School District Native American community is invited to hear about the District’s Indian Education grant application for the 2020-2021 school year. The information will be presented at the May 26 virtual School Board meeting. We value your participation and feedback.

Last night, the school board approved the hiring of Bruce Kipper as the new Principal of Shelton High School, beginning July 1, 2020. Mr. Kipper and has had a 32+ year career in education.

In case you have not heard, the Shelton School District has been hard at work preparing to open a new high school for the 20/21 school year. Last night, the school board approved the name of the new high school. A lot of consideration and research was spent in the naming the school. After many meetings with staff and students and multiple surveys being sent out to students, staff, families, and community members, we are very excited to announce the name of the new school - Cedar High School!

We have so many incredible teachers in the Shelton School District that we are grateful for. Even though we can't be together to celebrate, we thank you for your hard work and dedication.

The Shelton School District is saddened, and we want to do everything we can to support our Seniors during this time. As a public school district, we have to comply with State directives. We must follow those to ensure the safety of our students, staff and community. Our Governor has put in place a stay at home order asking us to avoid going out unless there is an essential task such as grocery shopping, going to the doctor, picking up school work, etc. As a School District, we cannot encourage anyone to gather or leave their home at this time. It is difficult for all of us to avoid coming together and celebrating so many things in our school community, but we must continue to stay the course to ensure safety for all. In the last 30 days, the Shelton School District has made a complete 180-degree transformation and it is important to take a step back and take a look at where we were, and the journey we have been on to get to where we are today.

School board meetings will now be streamed live via YouTube every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM. Community members may make comments by sending an email to SchoolBoard@sheltonschools.org. Comments will be read at the beginning of the meeting, and another opportunity will be given at the end of the meetings as if the meeting was in person. All Shelton School District facilities and grounds are closed to use by the public, District staff, and students through April 24, 2020. Stadiums, fields, sport courts, parking lots, outdoor plazas, tracks, as well as all buildings are closed to everyone. This includes key holders. This is done for public safety and to help prevent transmission of the coronavirus. Please stay away from District Facilities or congregating in public spaces with others. Grab & Go breakfast and lunch programs will still continue at Shelton High School, Olympic Middle School, Evergreen Elementary and Bordeaux Elementary from 9 AM - noon, Monday-Friday and are unaffected by closures. Also, childcare for healthcare providers and first responders will continue at Mountain View Elementary, Monday-Friday. The District also will be providing Chromebook pickup to students starting March 30th. We thank you for doing your part to stay away from District facilities during the current closure. The physical health of our community is depending on us all to do our part.
