MMR No Personal Exemptions Law

As of July 28, 2019, a new state law removes the personal and philosophical option to exempt children from the MMR vaccine required for school and child care attendance. Medical and religious exemptions are not affected by this new law. Based on this new law, you will need to provide updated immunization paperwork at or before the start of the 2019-2020 school year, starting on SEPTEMBER 16, 2019. Children without a medical or religious exemption will need two doses of MMR vaccine to be allowed into school.

Oakland Bay Jr. High is currently in 2nd place in Washington State for having the most students per capita passing their industry certified tests! Students have the opportunity to earn a Microsoft professional certificate in office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Thank you to all of the family members, teachers, and staff for your support in honoring 35 students at the fourth annual Shelton School District Most Inspiring Student Award Ceremony. The students recognized, are succeeding in school despite various challenges in their lives and who have inspired others in the process. Shelton School District is proud to have such inspirational students.

Anticipated Budget Cuts for 19/20

An Important Message from Dr. Apostle: For the 2019-20 school year, the District is anticipating a nearly $5 million deficit. Much of the deficit is due to anticipated cost increases to the school district related to the new School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) health care plan, the loss of local levy funds, and other costs that are anticipated to exceed available revenues. The District must adjust to these deficiencies while continuing to move the school district into a 21st century model that supports academies, career-connected learning, increased mental health programs, and the restructuring of our schools in terms of age-appropriate environments and instructional programs. On April 23, 2019, the school board approved a resolution to implement a Reduced Educational Program. Kindergarten Readiness & Enrollment

Do you know a child who will be five years old on or before August 31? Maybe it's your neighbor, family friend or even your own child. Spread the word... now is the time to register for kindergarten. Children turning 5 years old on or before August 31 can start kindergarten in the 2019-20 school year. Registration starts February 1, 2019.
