Constitutional Speech Contest (Date Posted 10/23/2018)
On January 12, 2019, American Legion Post 31 will host the Constitutional Speech at 0900 in Memorial Hall at Shelton, WA. Interested students from Shelton High School and North Mason High School are encouraged to participate.
Students wishing to participate must write a 10-minute speech on the Constitution and then present it by memory. Then one of the three chosen amendments would be spoken for 5 minutes.
The winner would go to Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, WA on March 8-10, 2019. The top four from Washington State would share $5,000.00 in scholarship funds and go to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete for a share of $138,000.00 in scholarship funds.
American Legion Post 31 will pay all expenses for all students that are able to participate. The contest is open to all grades 9 through 12, or equivalent in the case of homeschooled in Mason County. This is one of the ways our American Legion Post serves the Mason County community.
